For this reason, we are taking the time to educate women about the benefits of egg freezing. This medical procedure can be considered insurance for women who have been diagnosed with cancer, are transitioning, or who want to focus on education and career.
How are eggs frozen?
Eggs consist of approximately 70 to 80 percent water. For this reason, we use the Vitrification method to freeze embryos and eggs. This method became the standard in 2012 because the fast freezing technique ensured minimal damage to the eggs/embryos, resulting in a thawing survival rate of more than 90 percent.
When should you freeze your eggs?
Unfortunately, age does matter. Women have depleted 90 percent of their eggs by the age of 30. Fortunately, the remaining 10 percent of eggs are relatively well-functioning. By the time a woman reaches the age of 40, she has depleted 97 percent of her eggs, with the remaining 3 percent being of relatively poor quality.
Women are able to freeze their eggs any time before the age of 41, with women in their 20s having a significant advantage. Today, however, we see most women freezing their eggs between the ages of 35 and 38.
When a woman chooses to freeze her eggs, she is freezing her eggs in time at that age, to be used at a later point in time.
How many frozen eggs are needed?
This is not a straightforward answer and is personal to everyone. To provide the best odds for your future, the more you have, the better the outcome. Also, the younger the age at which the eggs are frozen, the better the quality and the greater the quantity.
How much does egg freezing cost?
The cost of the egg freezing procedure and medication will be specific to the individual but typically varies between $8,600 – $13,600, and after the first year, there is an annual storage fee of $500.
